World Book Day
Hello children, I'm Jude and I'm an author and storyteller. Lamby and Flossie are my storytelling mascots with Little Lamb Tales. Today we are so excited because it is World Book Day! We are going to celebrate books in lots of different ways including dressing up, talking about books and making a bookmark.
9.30am Activity:
Dressing Up
We love dressing up for World Book Day. Lamby, Flossie and I are going to look in our dressing up box to find something to wear. Maybe you could find an outfit which reminds you of a book.
Grown Ups:
Encourage your child to look in their dressing up box or to use any clothes/props they have to make an outfit to go with a book. Remind them that their outfit doesn't have to be completely the same as the book. Use language such as dress up, costume, props, book, character names, book title.
Develops - Communication & Language and Expressive Arts skills.
10.30am Activity:
Guess the Book
We have got our outfits ready. Can you guess which books we have dressed up as? We'll give you three clues for each book.
Grown Ups:
Encourage your child to listen to the clues and guess which book we have dressed up as. Talk about the clues they could give to someone to match their outfit (if they've dressed up). Please feel free to share your photos of your World Book Day costumes with EYFSHome info@eyfshome.com Use language such as dress up, costume, character, clue, book.
Develops - Communication& Language and PSED skills.
1:30pm Activity:
Make a Bookmark
Bookmarks help you to keep your place in a book. We are going to show you how to make your very own bookmark.
Grown Ups:
You may need to help your child with the cutting and folding to make the bookmark. Encourage them to think about the design they will decorate it with. Will it match their World Book Day character or will it have a different theme? If this is too tricky you can make an easier bookmark using a strip of paper then decorating it. Use language such as bookmark, place, cut, fold, decorate, ideas.
Develops - Language & Communication, Physical and Expressive Arts skills.
2:30pm Activity:
Let's Talk Books
We all like different books and for lots of different reasons. We're going to talk about why we like our books. We might mention the pictures or the characters or what happens in the story. Can you talk about your favourite books with a grown up?
Grown Ups:
Encourage your child to talk about their favourite books. Try to ask questions which will encourage them to give a descriptive answer. You could prompt your child by talking about your favourite book first. You could also ask them about a particular character or picture. Remind your child that we don't all have to like the same books. Use language such as - favourite, like, dislike, character, discuss, picture.
Develops - Communication & Language and PSED skills.
