Funky Fingers Day
My name is Emma and I’m a children’s activity artist and a teacher. Today we will be using our ‘funky fingers’ to do some great activities.
We have lots of muscles in our fingers and hands. When we are young, it’s really important to exercise them and learn some fun techniques that will help us to do really important things, like tying our shoelaces and zipping up our jackets.
Lets have some fun today doing lots of funky finger activities!
Playdough Activities
We’re going to squash and squeeze, roll and splat, pinch and tear our Playdough.
Why not have a go at squashing two colours together to make a new colour. Have fun together with your child experimenting with Playdough. What different shapes can you make? How does it make you feel to squish, squash and squeeze the Playdough? This activity develops children’s fine motor skills and creativity.
Threading
Let’s have a go at some different threading activities.

Finger Painting
I love getting creative and messy too, but today we are going to do some mess free painting.
This is a great activity that you can do together with your child. Let them explore with their fingers how to mix the colours, make patterns and even make a frame for their funky finger paint creation. This activity supports children’s fine motor skills, creativity, expressive arts and design and concentration.
Finger Rhymes
Join me to sing and act out the finger rhyme ‘5 Little Ducks went Swimming One Day!
Together with your child use your fingers to count down as we sing one of our favourite rhymes. You can make your own finger puppets to act out this well known song. This activity supports children’s expressive arts and design and develops their fine motor skills too.
